  • Olena Sasko Participates in the Professional Development School for Criminal Law Instructors: "Criminal Legislation of Ukraine: Contemporary Challenges and Development Prospects"

    Contemporary transformations of national legislation are setting new developmental vectors for criminal law, which directly impact both its scholarship and practice, and this, in turn, necessitates improvements in teaching methodologies for future legal professionals. Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement at the Faculty of Law, Olena Sasko, participated in the Professional Development School for Criminal Law Instructors: "Criminal Legislation of Ukraine: Contemporary Challenges and Development Prospects." The event was aimed at supporting the professional development of criminal law educators from higher education institutions and took place under the OSCE Support Programme for Ukraine, in cooperation with the Supreme Court and in partnership with the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University (February 8–10, 2026, Kyiv).   The School's work involved judges of the Supreme Court, leading scholars, experienced instructors, and members of the working group developing the new Criminal Code. The School's lecturers presented current concepts of criminal law, shared innovative teaching approaches in wartime conditions, and offered practical advice on improving criminal law teaching methodologies in light of contemporary challenges and development prospects.

  • Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University has joined the Open Academic Networks of the Council of Europe (OCEAN) Programme

    The Council of Europe Open Academic Networks (OCEAN) Programme brings together universities, research institutions, and scholars from the 46 member states of the Council of Europe around a shared goal – human rights, democracy, and the rule of law. The OCEAN Programme is implemented by the Department for the Implementation of Human Rights, Justice and Legal Co-operation Standards. Founded in 2018 by Professor Michele Nicoletti, then President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, OCEAN welcomes both institutional and individual academic members from Council of Europe member states and beyond. The Open Academic Networks of the Council of Europe aim to facilitate the exchange and creation of knowledge regarding over 200 Council of Europe conventions in cooperation with European universities through teaching, research, and academic activities. OCEAN provides a platform that brings together universities, research institutions, and individual scholars working on Council of Europe conventions of their choice or other topics related to the work and mission of the Council of Europe. It serves as a source of information on Council of Europe activities, promotes the dissemination of best practices and research, connects its members with the Council of Europe and its expert groups, and offers its members opportunities to participate in events organised by OCEAN in Strasbourg or its member states, either online or in person. Institutional members are encouraged to organise at least one academic event per year, such as seminars, conferences, summer or winter schools, in the aforementioned fields. Individual members are requested to play a leading role in organising the aforementioned events or to publish (an article, book, or chapter) on any of the Council of Europe conventions or other aspects of its mission.

  • Invite You to Online Course "Democracy" by Eric Putzig

    The lecturer is Eric Putzig, Honorary Doctor of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University and President of the American non-profit organization "Build Ukraine Democracy." For over two years, Erik Putzig has been working on a volunteer basis, applying his 25 years of experience in implementing US government projects in countries such as Afghanistan, Iraq, East Timor, Cambodia, and others. The "Democracy" course is an introductory interdisciplinary programme covering aspects of law, politics, history, philosophy, and the arts. It will be of interest to students from all faculties and at all educational levels (Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD). REGISTRATION is available via the link: https://www.buildukrainedemocracy.com/registration Registration deadline: March 15 The course includes: 20 hours of video lectures in English with Ukrainian subtitles; 10 hours of practical sessions (lecture materials, exercises, case studies); 658 animated PowerPoint slides; Midterm and final exams. Upon completion of the course, students receive certificates for 3 ECTS credits, featuring the logos of all participating universities. Teachers are also welcome to participate, with the opportunity for professional development and to receive a certificate.

  • American lawyer and volunteer Eric Putzig, Doctor honoris causa of Lesya Ukrainka National University, gave a lecture for syudents of the specialty "Law Enforcement Activity"

    On November 11, 2025, a guest lecture by American lawyer, volunteer, and founder of the Build Ukraine Democracy organization, Eric Putzig, on the topic "Law Enforcement Activities in the USA" was held at the Faculty of Law of the Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University. During the meeting, the lecturer spoke about the specifics of the work of law enforcement agencies at the federal, state, county, and city levels, explained the differences between police officers and sheriffs, outlined the key functions and specifics of the activities of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and others. Students of 1st-3rd years of specialty 262/K9 "Law Enforcement Activity" actively participated in the discussion, asking questions about the organization of the service, training, and ethical standards of police officers in the United States. At the end, the students thanked Eric Putzig for an interesting, informative, and interactive lecture that allowed them to deepen their understanding of the work of the American law enforcement system and its values.

  • Sofia Katelchuk took part in the 3rd Yulia Shevchenko National Debates on Criminal Law

    On November 1-2, the final round of the 3rd Yulia Shevchenko National Debates on Criminal Law was held at the premises of the High Anti-Corruption Court. Twelve teams participated in the debates, comprising 35 participants from various universities in Ukraine. The Faculty of Law of Lesya Ukrainka National University was represented by Sofia Kotelchuk. The judges in the debates were: Oleksiy Horokh, Doctor of Law, Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal and Criminal Procedure Law of NAUKMA; Andriy Fortunenko, attorney, partner in the dispute resolution practice and head of the business protection practice of AVELLUM; Iulian Munteanu, attorney in the criminal practice of the law firm Riyako&Partners The victory was won by the team "EGVI", Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Sofia Kotelchuk and her team advanced to the quarterfinals. The competition also had a charitable purpose. After all, 30% of the funds collected from organizational contributions will be transferred to the family of the deceased defender of Ukraine Yulia Shechenko. Yulia Shevchenko is a postgraduate student of the Yaroslav Mudryi National University of Law, the winner of the "Anti-Corruption Landing" project, an employee of the NACP, who actively helped law students. She died on July 30, 2023 in the Zaporizhia direction, defending Ukraine from Russian invaders.

  • Loss of validity of the Commercial Code of Ukraine: legal and economic consequences

    On October 30, 2025, a seminar was held at the Faculty of Law of Lesya Ukrainka National University on the topic "The Loss of Effect of the Commercial Code of Ukraine: Legal and Economic Consequences". The main provisions of the Law of Ukraine "On the Peculiarities of Regulation of the Activities of Legal Entities of Certain Organizational and Legal Forms in the Transitional Period and Associations of Legal Entities" dated January 9, 2025 No. 4196-IX regarding the corporatization of management in legal entities based on state and municipal property, new mechanisms for controlling the use of state and municipal property, features of the regulation of the legal status of enterprises, new approaches to regulating the property basis for ensuring entrepreneurial activity, and also outlined the expected positive consequences and possible difficulties of the legal and economic nature of the reform carried out in the conditions of martial law in the country. The seminar was held as part of the work of the student scientific problem group "Current issues of organizing and implementing public procurement and activities in the field of economic management in Ukraine" (leaders - Professor Andriy Dukhnevych, Associate Professor Larysa Shevchuk, Associate Professor Maria Sokol).

  • Lectures on the topics: "Cyber ​​fraud, Internet security, BRAMA project" and "Respect for human rights in police activities"

    3 0.10.2025 at the Faculty of Law for Higher Education Applicants 262 Law Enforcement Activities, at the invitation of Alla Mykolayivna Gorot, Associate Professor of the Department of Constitutional, Administrative and International Law, guest lectures were given by Police Lieutenant Iryna Tsesar and Police Captain Ivan Danko, and Human Rights Inspectors of the Lutsk District Police Department Olga Krykun and Yulia Kratyuk. During a guest lecture on the topic: "Cyber ​​fraud, Internet security, BRAMA project", the operational officer of the cybercrime counteraction department in the Volyn region, police lieutenant Tsesar Iryna, told the applicants about different types of cyber fraud and methods of combating this type of crime. She also introduced the applicants to the BRAMA platform, and offered to join this platform in case of detecting violations. The head of the human rights sector of the Lutsk district police department, police captain Ivan Danko, and human rights inspectors of the Lutsk district police department, Olga Krykun and Yulia Kratyuk, during a guest lecture on the topic: "Compliance with human rights in police activities", introduced the applicants to international standards during detention, examples of the implementation of such international standards by police units, and the applicants were also introduced to the "Custody Records" system. The lecturer noted that police units respect human rights during detention and provide all necessary conditions to ensure such rights.

  • Meeting with law students of the representative of the Bureau of Economic Security

    Representative Roman Kovalenko told students of the Faculty of Law of Lesya Ukrainka National University about the peculiarities of work in the law enforcement sphere and the activities of the Bureau of Economic Security. Future lawyers learned about the main directions and results of the Territorial Administration's work. We got acquainted with real cases - from exposing tax crimes to combating smuggling. We discussed career opportunities at BES.

  • Excursion to the Lutsk City District Court of Volyn region for law students

    On October 24, 2025, the Volyn branch of the League of Students of the Association of Lawyers of Ukraine organized a field trip for law students to the Lutsk City District Court of the Volyn region. The event was aimed at introducing participants to the work of the judicial system from the inside and showing how real trials take place. During the tour, students had the opportunity to: • learn about the structure of the court and the organization of the work of its departments; • see how court hearings are held and get acquainted with their stages; • talk to judges, court clerks and court staff; • receive practical advice on building a future legal career. The participants saw what the judicial procedure looks like in practice, understood the role of each participant in the process. The meeting took place in an open and informative atmosphere. Representatives of the court willingly shared their professional experience, answered students' questions and talked about modern challenges in judicial practice. Such events help future lawyers see how theoretical knowledge gained during their studies is implemented in real life, and take another step towards consciously choosing their professional path. We express our sincere gratitude to the Lutsk City District Court of the Volyn region for their hospitality and openness to cooperation, and to all participants for their activity and sincere interest in their future profession!

  • When to start and where to start: starting a legal career

    On October 23, a meeting was held at the Volyn Youth Center on the topic "When to Start and Where to Start: Starting a Legal Career," organized for law students. The speakers of the event were Viktoriya Tataryn and Yuliya Vintsyuk, graduates of Lesya Ukrainka University, managing partners of the Legis Finance Law Firm, who have over 15 years of professional experience in the field of law. During the meeting, participants learned how to start their own professional path in law, find their first internship or job, and what skills are key to achieving success in the modern legal field. The speakers shared practical advice, real stories from their legal practice, and emphasized the importance of continuous development, perseverance, and belief in one’s own strengths. The event took place in a sincere and inspiring atmosphere, creating a space for open dialogue between future lawyers and experienced professionals. Participants received valuable advice, motivation, and an understanding that the first steps in a legal career begin with activity, learning, and confidence in one's abilities.

  • A public discussion of the draft professional standard "Private Executor" was held at the Faculty of Law

    On October 28, a public discussion of the draft professional standard "Private Executor" was held at the Faculty of Law with the participation of members of the expert group for the development of the standard and private executors of the Volyn region. Experts – Serhiy Lysenko (Doctor of Law, Professor, Director of the Institute of Security of PrJSC “VNI “MAUP” - Head of the Expert Group), Anton Demchuk (Candidate of Law, Associate Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Law of the Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University) and Denys Spesivtsev (Candidate of Law, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Civil Law Disciplines of the Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University) highlighted the main prerequisites and purpose of forming a professional standard, as well as revealed the features of the work process for developing an important document for the entire profession and answered the questions of the discussion participants. In turn, private contractors shared their thoughts on the standard, and also made suggestions regarding the requirements for competencies that are put forward to a private contractor in order to ensure the high quality of the professional activities carried out by ensuring the entry into the profession of highly qualified and responsible personnel. Representatives of the Association of Private Teachers in the Volyn Region, Klekho Anatoliy, Kapitan Mykhailo, Pyroga Serhiy, Taranko Dmytro, Shulzhenko Ihor and others, joined the discussion. The public discussion was just one of many platforms for open coverage of the process of developing a professional standard and considering its draft provisions within the framework of a system of tools for constant communication of the expert group with private performers in Ukraine, self-regulatory organizations, state authorities and the public.
